Richard Kirkendall

Richard S. Kirkendall began his work on this biography of Henry Wallace while serving as the Henry A. Wallace Professor of Agricultural History and Rural Studies at Iowa State University and completed it during his tenure as the Scott and Dorothy Bullitt Professor of American History at the University of Washington.  While at Iowa State University, he established the doctoral program in Agricultural History and Rural Studies and served as the editor of the Henry A. Wallace Series at the Iowa State University Press.

Long interested in the history of American agriculture and in the Wallaces as major participants in that history, Professor Kirkendall's work on a biography of Henry A. revealed the influence of the first Henry on the third and convinced the author that the first Henry's history deserved to be much better known.
